“North Woods Law” Game Wardens to Celebrate an Ice Cream Milestone in Skowhegan

Gifford’s Famous Ice Cream announced today that it is hosting a community celebration in its hometown of Skowhegan to commemorate the 35th anniversary of its first ice cream stand located in the town. Game Wardens (including Kris MacCabe and Chad Robertson) from the Maine Warden Service as featured in North Woods Law, the popular Animal Planet documentary television series, will join the celebration as honored guests. The event is free and open to the public and will take place from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, July 29, at Gifford’s Famous Ice Cream Stand, located at 307 Madison Avenue in Skowhegan. The celebration is also a fundraiser for the Somerset Humane Society and Gifford’s plans to donate a percentage of its proceeds from the day up to $500.

“We’ve been making our ice cream right here in Skowhegan for almost 50 years,” said Lindsay Gifford-Skilling, fifth generation ice cream maker and general manager at Gifford’s Famous Ice Cream. “Skowhegan is our home and this community has provided incredible support over the years—everything from families who have enjoyed our ice cream, to employees who have worked for our company, to the goods and services that we have relied on to grow our business. When it came time to celebrate our anniversary, we wanted to make it fun and something memorable.”

In addition to inviting the cast from North Woods Law to meet the community and sign autographs, Gifford’s plans to serve up delicious ice cream and roll out a series of free games and activities great for every age including: a speed pitch, a beanbag toss, a balloon artist and a drawing contest. Visitors will be able to enjoy $1 Mini-Golf Rounds (weather permitting) and 35% off all made-to-order ice cream treats at the stand

(excluding hand-packed quarts). Raffles, prizes and fun giveaways will also be part of the celebration mix. The North Woods Law Game Wardens will share their fascinating display of furs and mounts, will have their law enforcement vehicle on view and will introduce Morgan, one of their canine specialty team members, to the community.

Gifford-Skilling continued: “The last 35 years have been a thrilling journey for my family and we look forward to making and serving ice cream in Skowhegan for many more years to come. We invite everyone to come out and celebrate with us.”
