Gifford’s Launches Scoop Shack on Wheels for National Ice Cream Day

Mobile ice cream shack to roll out at Brunswick music festival

SKOWHEGAN, MAINE Sunday, July 17 is National Ice Cream Day and what better way to celebrate than with Gifford’s HomeMaine Ice Cream especially if the company brings it directly to you. Maine’s most popular ice cream company is unveiling its new rolling Scoop Shack, a 20-foot trailer, and taking it for a test run at the Maine Folk, a Gathering of Kindred Spirits in Brunswick, Maine, and bringing its family-owned stand experience to Southern Maine. The new Scoop Shack will be at the music festival on Friday July 15th from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday July 16th from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. and the world’s biggest ice cream day on Sunday July 17th from 12 p.m. to sunset.

Gifford’s new rolling Scoop Shack goes way beyond the neighborhood ice cream truck or even the traditional experiential van. The Scoop Shack will allow Gifford’s to bring its entire Maine ice cream stand experience to anywhere in New England. From the new rolling ice cream stand, Gifford’s will have the ability to serve 15 to 20 delicious flavors at a time. The trailer is equipped with state-of-the-art cold storage capacity with two large 60-gallon freezers and two 12-gallon standing fridge units on board.  In addition to serving up fans’ favorite sugar or waffle cones topped with Gifford’s ice cream, consumers will also be able to order up Gifford’s popular sundaes and frappes.

“In the summer of 2014, we took an ice cream truck to Washington, DC, so that we could sample our ice cream and introduce our story to the Atlantic region,” said Lindsay Skilling, CEO and fifth-generation ice cream maker, Gifford’s. “Ever since then, we’ve received hundreds of calls, emails and letters asking if our ice cream truck could come to a particular event or function here in Maine. With our new Scoop Shack, we can finally say YES to these requests. We can’t wait to get on the road and connect in person with our fans.”

Gifford’s plan for its new rolling Scoop Shack is multi-faceted − think a triple scoop on a cone. In this first year, the Scoop Shack will focus on Maine-based events, but the plan is eventually to be at events all over New England. The full list of 2022 events is still being developed but will include several free sampling pop-ups as well as festivals where Gifford’s will sell its ice cream directly to consumers. Additionally, the fifth-generation ice cream family will make the Scoop Shack available for large private functions like weddings and corporate events. To inquire about reserving the Scoop Shack, please email scoopshack@giffordsicecream.com.

“It’s incredibly exciting to see our rolling Scoop Shack finally come to fruition − it’s something we’ve wanted to do for a long time,” noted Skilling. “For those folks who can’t make it to one of our five family-owned stands in Maine, now they can get that experience and see our passion for ice cream in person which will make this summer all the sweeter.”
