Four in a Row: Gifford’s Ice Cream Wins Top Ice Cream Award Again at World Dairy Expo

Overall win is one of four awards earned by Gifford’s at 2013 competition.

Skowhegan, Maine (September 2013) –
Gifford’s Ice Cream once again has won the top award for best overall ice cream at the 2013 World Dairy Expo, the leading ice cream and dairy competition in North America. Gifford’s Vanilla Bean Ice Cream was named the 2013 Ice Cream Grand Champion, besting entries from local, regional and national ice cream makers across the country.

This is the fourth consecutive year a Gifford’s Ice Cream flavor has won Ice Cream Grand Champion: Vanilla Bean also won the top prize in 2012, and the company’s World’s Best Chocolate won top honors in 2011 and 2010.

Three other Gifford’s Ice Cream flavors earned World Dairy Expo awards in 2013: French Vanilla and Orange Sherbet earned first place in their respective categories, and World’s Best Chocolate earned second place in its category.

Experts from the dairy industry blind judge entries from across the country using multiple criteria and in various flavor categories. Prizes are awarded in each flavor category, and the top overall ice cream is named Ice Cream Grand Champion.

The World Dairy Expo awards cap a rewarding year for Gifford’s Ice Cream. In May, the Boston Globe named Gifford’s Maine’s best ice cream; in June, food blog CTBites.com named Gifford’s Toasted Coconut to its list of best store bought ice creams; and in July, Campfire S’mores won the People’s Choice first place prize at the New Jersey Ice Cream Festival.

The World Dairy Expo Championship Dairy Product Contest is the only national contest in North America to include all dairy products in categories ranging from ice cream to milk to cheese. This year’s contest included a record 820 entries.

Gifford’s Vanilla Bean ice cream is made with fresh Maine milk and cream, sugar and natural vanilla bean. Like every scoop of Gifford’s ice cream, it is made using vintage 1940’s-era freezers and a state-of-the-art cooling process to create ice cream that has award-winning rich, creamy texture and taste.
