Get Real Get Maine

We think making ice cream is fun... maybe that is why our customers like eating it so much! We get hundreds of letters from people who love our ice cream and our ice cream stands. Here are just a few.

As a small family owned company, we take all customer comments, complaints and suggestions very seriously and act upon them immediately.

Dear Giffords,
My husband who is 85 years old and a devoted french vanilla ice cream aficionado has happily discovered yours. You've made him very happy! For over 70 years he has favored a local maker who has a very popular ice cream stand. My husband has enjoyed coffee sodas with french vanilla ice cream and even makes his own coffee syrup - so he's serious! My quick purchase of your brand to stand in for his favorite has altered his opinion forever.
Thank you for the great quality and your being there in this world teaming with the mediocre or the outright fake.
Sincerely,
Nancy W. Brown

Response:
Dear Nancy,
Thank you for your kind words about our ice cream! We are very glad to hear that you and your husband enjoyed it! French Vanilla is one of our favorites, as well as one of our best sellers. It truly means a lot to us that both of you share our passion for ice cream.

Dear Sirs,
As a native of Maine I always make it a point to serve and buy Maine products. Gifford's, of course, is first on the list. However, my husband and I have been advised to skip the ice cream and buy frozen yogurt. We buy it, probably the egg yolks used in your yogurt is what makes it special. Never the less we will continue to buy it and enjoy your products. I am wondering why there isn't more variety. With all the Maine local fruits available surely when fruits are at their peak couldn't strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, or rhubarb, just to mention a few, be used? When we lived in Portland we used to travel to the "custard" stand in New Gloucester to eat their products because they reflected Maine products, but please, enough moose this and that. Travelling Maine is "moose danger" why would anyone buy moose chocolate in their desserts? Also, what ever happened to the Orange Pineapple product? We can't find it in Manchester anymore. Could that become a yogurt someday? I hope so.

Irealize that Hannaford are pushing their products, but I hope Gifford's will remain available and have more yogurt variety. The raspberry without chocolate chips was great, we can't find that either in the yogurt.

Thank you for your patience in reading this,
Angela Houghton, Manchester NH

Response:
Dear Angela,
Thank you very much for your letter. We will certainly take your request and ideas up at our next flavor meeting. Unfortunately, we have limited space in stores and we have to be very careful with our selections. Thank you for the wonderful ideas for Yogurts and the use of Maine fruits. We currently do carry a Maine Blueberry ice cream that is made with Maine Wild Blueberries. As for the Orange Pineapple ice cream we do carry that in a quart size. If your Hannaford doesn't carry that flavor, we suggest you request it. The more requests they get for an item the more likely that item is to appear again.

Kosher?
I just received an inquiry from an Orthodox tourist about your ice cream. Is it Kosher? If so, who provides the supervision?

Response:
Dear Jennifer,
Yes, our product is Kosher. Rabbi Aryeh Spero of Canton, OH comes and inspects our facility and product. Thank you for inquiring.

Gluten:
Hi, I've just been diagnosed with Celiac Disease and want to know about your ice cream and whether or not it contains gluten.
Thanks, Emma, Bangor ME

Response:
Hello Emma,
Thank you for your inquiry about our ice cream. Most of the ice cream we make are Gluten Free. The only ice cream we make which contains glutens, are flavors such as Brownie Batter, Whoopie Pie, Cake Batter, and any other flavor which contains bakery items such as cake pieces or brownies.
I hope this helps. If you need any further information, please let me know, I would be glad to help.
